The Ideal Seat for a Baby

Bloged in travel by admin Wednesday March 4, 2009

This travel seat is for children weighing more than 13 kg (approximately 3 years). The seat is put in the back of a car and it is fixed with safety belts, which are tied at the level of the child’s hips (not the abdomen), passing on to the shoulders level (not the neck). In the case of an accident, you would cause the strangulation of the blood artery leading to the head and even fractures of the spine.

Attention, a travel seat belt should never be placed under the arm of the child, because in case of accident, it would have the effect of heart compression. As a result, the head of the child must be at the top level of the car seat (or the back seat especially designed for children).

Whatever the chosen model of the seat is for more security, just follow the car seat manufacturer’s instructions, as no one is safe in case of accidents.

Tips for the Trip

Avoid driving on hot weather, especially in summer. Avoid placing harsh or heavy objects on the back seat of the car. They risk falling onto the child in case of sudden stop. Protect your child against the sun (heat) with special blinds for the car. Avoid opening the windows, as draught could cause trouble to the child. Take many toys with you, but do not give him or her all of them once, but in turn, to keep him or her always busy. If possible, sit next to him or her on the back seat (put the bags on the front seat) to be able to read a story for the child, without bothering the driver. Avoid smoking, even if you open the window. Take advantage and make a trip break! Do not ever leave a child alone in the car!

The Train

The train seems to be the safest and the most economical vehicle to travel with small children. If you need to cheap travel more (the road is long), it is ideal travelling by the sleeping car.

Our Advice

Do not take any seat in the smoking car when you have a child with you. If you are a smoker, try not to smoke or smoke in the hall. Take some diapers and put them on the back seat (before the baby is placed there). If the baby is very little, take a pillow with you and make sure it will not roll off it. Install your child on a seat near the window, so he or she can take advantage of the landscape and will not be disturbed by the baggage of many people who are moving around during the trip.

Take two feeding bottles with you (of water or milk), the train air conditioning is dry and dehydrated. Introduce your child to the other passengers, so they will understand and will stand better possible crying. Take the blankets, diapers, toys, clothes, food (special food) for the child.

Do not let the baby in the pram (even if the wheels are locked), prefer places on the seat (book them in advance), which will be more comfortable and more secure.
